Goddamned monkeys always ending up where they shouldn't

Some of the monkeys ended up on some very naughty pages today. I really don't think that the Major Financial Institution was happy to find their ad above hardcore pornography. Actually, I know they weren't because they called.

But this actually wasn't our fault, it was mislabeled tags from the publisher. We thought we were getting legit non-user generated content. Instead we ended up on a quickly thrown together ad page for a porn site using the publisher's user pages for free hosting. The pub had shut the page down, but the naughty text was visible in Google and the rather hardcore images were visible in the cached page. The client found out by googling for a very specific term relating to their products. Here is where it gets interesting.

Apparently the people setting up the porn page knew that this particular term almost guaranteed high paying Google cost-per-click ads to come through. So they added that term down in the text. Sneaky sneaky bastards.

You would think that Google might argue the payout on that particular set of impressions, if the publisher was clearly trying to manipulate the system. Especially now that they're caught.

I think they probably did. By the time the client found the site it had already been pulled. We found this all by checking the G.Cache.
